Email Template Control
This IkonForums© Email Management Utility allows the Board Administrator to view and edit any or all of the emails sent from your IkonForums Board.

Configuration

  • None
This is a simple text editor built into the IkonForums© Control Panel.

What is an email template?
A simple text (non-HTML) generic email that utilizes IkonForums© Email Content Tags to create personalized email content from your IkonForums Board to it's members, from your Board members to other Board members, or from your Board members to their family or friends.

Step 2

You may view the pre-defined templates default text on this page.

In each template at the very bottom of the email message body you will notice a
"Powered by IkonForums 1.0 (http://www.ikonforums.com/)" link back to our main website. You may remove it if you wish; you would not be breaking any "rules." But, for those of you who've decided to give us recognition for authoring your Forum Software, we Thank You.

Can I create a new template?
No, at least not by this utility. Email templates must be recognized by IkonForums throughout various areas of the Board Software so that they are functional. Creating a new template, recognizing and initiating it, and fulfilling it's desired function requires a lot of coding.

If you haven't done so, please enlarge the thumbnail image so that you may familiarize yourself concerning the following discussion.

Currently, IkonForums has four fields of enterable information when adding an Internet Media Type to the MIME List. You can add up to five MIME entries at any one time.

These fields are, in order (left to right):

  1. MIME Type (more accurately: Content-Type)
Must be a valid Internet Media / Content-Type
    text input line
    Default: empty
  2. Mime Description
    text input line
    Default: empty

    Tip:
Keep the description short; it displays underneath the text link in Posts.

  3. Mime Image GFX ID
    text input line
    Default: empty

Each Mime Type has an image associated with it which will be displayed beside the uploaded file. This image must be uploaded to the
    /html/non-cgi/gfx/Default[or Custom Graphics Pack Name]/images/mime
folder of your skin and an entry with the prefix MIME_ must be added to the GFX properties.

  4. Allow use?
    select menu
    Choices: Yes / No
    Default: Yes
  • Add These MIME Types
    Submit button
    Appends entries to MIME List
Tip:
Try using the file-type's extension as your MIME Image GFX ID.
Example: Mime Image GFX ID = ext
In Graphic's Area it will be referenced as: MIME_ext
For more information, view the Graphics Section of the IkonForums Skin Tutorial.

Edit MIME List

Editing a MIME is fairly simple. Hover over the desired field click, and edit.
You can update the Content-Type, change your Description, and even disallow the MIMEs usage (Allow use? "No")
When editing a GFX Reference ID, make sure you edit it's companion entry in the Appearances & Language: ISIS™ Graphics section.

To remove a MIME just delete all fields (set them to empty)

Remember to click the submit button Apply these changes at the very bottom of the page to apply your changes.

Emoticons

Emoticon stands for emotional icon; those cute little smiley faces you see on the Web. They can be static images (stationary) or animated. Animated emoticons usually have the file extension of .GIF while static emoticons can use: .GIF, .PNG, or .JPG. Emoticons are generally small, with sizes ranging from 16x16 pixels to 32x32 pixels (you don't want them too big or they'll no longer remain "cute" but rather become an eye soar).

You have a few methods of adding emoticons to your IkonForums© Board, you can use your FTP program to upload them to their containing folder: /non-cgi/emoticons, or you can upload the images through your IkonForums© Control Panel.

You can upload as many emoticons as you desire; however, they will not be usable until you tell IkonForums how to "see" them. To do this, you must define a textual expression that IkonForums can associate with the image. This is done in the topmost area of the emoticon utility.

To aid you with the correct filename, there is a View All Emoticons link that will open a pop up window displaying available images and their filenames.

Help Manager

The IkonForums© Help Manager allows you to edit existing topic titles and their topic content, as well as remove or add titles and content. Think of a title and it's associated content as help sections.

These entries are stored directly into the Language Files.
The location of this file for the English Language Pack is: /Languages/en/HelpContent.pm

Edit Help Topics

First option is to select the Language File that contains the Help Section you want to edit. If you have more than one Language Pack installed on your IkonForums Board, you will have them as choices in a drop-down menu select list; otherwise it will default to one: English, in which case all you need to do is click the Edit this Help File button.

In IkonForums, a Help Topic Section requires two (2) entries to be made, each entry key must contain the same topic prefix for title and content to be associated together.

  • Section Title
  • Section Content

Each entry key requires one of the following suffixes:

  • _title
  • _content

It is by these suffixes that IkonForums knows where to add the content. If you view your Help page via the main navigation help (tab/button/link), you will see a section labeled: Choose a topic. The SECTION_title is added to the Choose a topic menu. This title is a link that navigates to the second part of your section entry: SECTION_content.

SECTION_content contains the descriptive information associated with it's SECTION_title.

Entry KEY Rules

  1. Special Characters
    • NOT Allowed, ie. & % : / ; etc.
  2. No HTML allowed

Entry CONTENT Rules

  1. Special Characters
  2. Basic HTML allowed; ie. <br />, <p>This is a paragraph.</p>

Example:

Entry key: Topic_title
Entry text: Print Topic

Entry key: Topic_content
Entry text: This will display a printer friendly version of the topic suitable for printing. The link can be found at the bottom of each topic.

Displays on your Help Page...

Choose a topic: "Print Topic"

Topic Section: "This will display a printer friendly version of the topic suitable for printing. The link can be found at the bottom of each topic."
